We guide students to academic success

Better Students is a successful publisher of supplementary instructions for upper secondary school students in several European countries.

We provide students with the guidelines and tools they need to earn better grades and to achieve academic success. Since 1995, we’ve helped more than 2 million students reach their potential.

Our goal is to be the leading provider of affordable and high-quality supplementary instructions.

Mission

Nowadays, education is more important than ever. The right grades bring the right diplomas and together, they represent the foundation of one’s career.

But learning can be challenging, and many students, therefore, need homework assistance. Some students are lucky to have parents with an academic background who are available to assist them or to have wealthy parents who can afford a private tutor.

Students who don’t have these possibilities, may find themselves in a completely different situation. They are left alone with their homework, and the free help they may find on Google or via AI chatbots is insufficient and, at worst, wrong.

At Better Students we are committed to equal opportunities for students, and this is why we provide an alternative to tutoring in the form of online learning tools.

By following “The Better Students” principles in our product development we’re confident that we can create online learning tools, almost just as good as one-to-one tutoring. Scientific research supports this belief. For example, VanLehn (2011) concludes:

Within the limitations of this article, one recommendation is that the usage of step-based tutoring systems should be increased. Although such tutoring systems are not cheap to develop and maintain, those costs do not depend on the number of tutees. Thus, when a tutoring system is used by a large number of students, the cost per hour of tutoring can be much less that adult one-on-one human tutoring” (p. 213).

Principles

Ever since Better Students was founded in 2007, we’ve been on a quest to find the best ways to maximize student achievement with multimedia instructions. On our way, we’ve written a lot of guides, tested many technologies and learning approaches, implemented a lot of user feedback and have consulted a vast amount of scientific research on learning.

The result of this work is four basic principles which we incorporate in all of our products.

Personal

We like to think our products are personal tutors. The structure, language, direct address, abundant examples and teaching techniques deliver the knowledge in a direct way, as if a teacher had a private lesson with a student. Being personal also requires us to research and analyze the curricula of all available subjects in a given school system in order to make guidelines that are perfectly aligned with the assessment criteria.

Writing style

We incorporate a writing style based on cognitive language theory, which has the objective to make texts more clear and understandable. These guidelines include advice on how to build a sentence, how to structure a paragraph, how to outline the text and how to ensure coherence in the text.

Step-based and adapted granularity

Like any other good tutor would do, our guidelines take the student step by step through the process of solving the problem. The granularity of the individual steps is determined by what prior knowledge an average student has for the given subject. That means that guidelines for lower-level subjects unfold basic details with a higher granularity, whereas guidelines for higher-level subjects unfold more advanced concepts.

Example based

To support our guidelines, we offer worked examples illustrating what a success looks like. We truly believe that an example is worth a thousand words and there is scientific research that proves that examples are effective and valuable in the learning process. Cognitive load theory suggests that worked examples improve learning by reducing cognitive load during skill acquisition. The learning effect from integrating worked examples in instructions is named the “Worked-example effect”.

Our Brands

Better Students operates several brands. We target students in Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany and Romania with local brands and students worldwide with PrimeStudyGuides.com. We are continually looking to guide even more students who need help with their school-related problems.

Studienet.dk

Studienet.dk is the main brand of Better Students. Its history dates back to 1995 when it was known as Opgavecentralen, which was the first Internet-based service in Denmark to collect and publish materials from students. In 2000, the website changed its name to Studienet.dk, and in 2007, it was acquired by Better Students.

Studienet.dk targets high school students (gymnasium) in Denmark and provides assistance and support for all school-related problems, covering all main subjects.

One of the primary rules guiding our production process is that our products are not just essays/models. They are based on a set of strict pedagogical principles and address the students directly. This is why we consider Studienet.dk to be closer to a private tutor than to an educational website.

Our editorial team works closely with passionate teachers to create our gold products. These are quality-assured, which means every single paragraph was carefully read and corrected before publishing. Furthermore, our materials can be easily accessed from any PC, smartphone or tablet. All a student needs to get help for school is an Internet connection.

Regarding our team’s take on plagiarism, we are strongly opposed to any form of cheating. To help students write correct materials, we have also published a guide that explains how to use Studienet’s products to avoid plagiarizing or cheating.

In 2025, Better Students launched Privatlaerer.dk. The platform facilitates connections between students and private tutors in Denmark.

It gives students the opportunity to receive personalized instruction from experienced tutors, while also enabling teachers to easily and flexibly reach students across the country.

GDF.dk

Grundskolens Digitale Forlag (GDF) is a founded by Better Students in 2019.

At GDF.dk we publish high-quality educational resources for primary and lower secondary schools (grades 0-9).

Our materials can, to a large extent, be accessed without login, allowing parents and anyone interested can easily follow along.

Lærerstuderende.dk

Lærerstuderende.dk was founded to provide students studying primary school teacher education, as well as current primary school teachers in Denmark, assistance for dealing with all school-related problems.

In 2012, Lærerstuderende.dk was taken over by Better Students. Better Students continues its efforts to provide primary school teachers and future teachers the opportunity to draw inspiration from the largest collection of school-related materials in Denmark.

On Lærerstuderende.dk, teachers and other people that have an interest in education can find a database containing thousands of useful materials. The database consists of lesson plans, homework, courses and school projects sent to us by teachers and students.

All submitted materials go through a quality check performed by our editorial team. To assure the quality of our products, a significant part of the submitted papers are rejected, so only the best ones can be published.

Studienett.no

Studienett.no was founded in 2009. When creating the page, our team modelled it after Studienet.dk, which was the first Internet-based service in Denmark that has successfully published helpful materials for students.

Since 2009, the students’ interest in Studienett.no has grown, and today thousands of students find solutions for all their school-related problems on our website.

The website’s mission is to help high school students get better grades at school and the final exams, for all major subjects. Our team achieves this by offering professional help for homework, submissions and other written assignments during the school year.

Studienett.no, like other Better Students websites, acts like a private tutor. The guides, essays and other materials our editors publish will not simply show students a correct answer. They will also guide them in understanding the result.

We also publish original analysis examples, literary analysis and model answers. All quality-assured materials one can find on Studienett.no are called “Gold materials.” These were written in a pedagogical way and are carefully reviewed by our skilled editors.

Studienet.se

Studienet.se was founded in 2009.

Our website’s mission is to help high school students in Sweden achieve better grades at school and their final exams. We do this by providing guidance with homework, assignments and essays throughout the school year.

Studienet.se acts like an online private tutor. High school students can find help for any school-related problem, every subject, topic and grade.

The guides on Studienet.se serve as guidance and inspiration and can be easily accessed directly from a PC, smartphone or tablet.

Lektürehilfe.de

Lektürehilfe.de was founded in 2014.

The website offers guidance to German speaking students who need help with their literature-related assignments.

All high school students can access Lektürehilfe.de for summaries, characterizations, analysis, interpretations and other quality-assured materials. Our products are clear, concise and accessible.

The editorial team on Lektürehilfe.de consists of experienced teachers and writers. Their work results in helpful materials that will not only show students a perfect example but will also help them understand how to find the correct answer. This is why we encourage students to think about Lektürehilfe.de as a private literature tutor and not just an online educational page.

Liceunet.ro

Liceunet.ro was founded in 2014 by Better Students.

Liceunet.ro targets high school (liceu) students in Romania. The website offers help for all school-related problems and gives students access to quality-assured products written by experienced Romanian teachers and talented students.

More recently on Liceunet.ro, students can also find guidance and help for middle school and its particular exams. The website is still growing, as our editorial team is continually developing new sections and categories.

PrimeStudyGuides.com

PrimeStudyGuides.com is a brand of Better Students. The main idea behind the site is to make our popular study guides for English texts readily available for an international audience.

The site launched in early November 2019 with more than 400 expertly written study guides on a very wide variety of literary texts and speeches that we think will appeal to students all over the world.

PrimeStudyGuides.com is thus the first truly international brand of Better Students, but coming from the same team of highly trained and well-experienced editors and writers that is behind our other succesful brands since 2007.

Studieportalen.dk

Studieportalen.dk is a homework community for high school, middle school and primary school students.

On Studieportalen.dk, users can ask questions about school-related problems. Also, users, including teachers, can answer the current questions. The answers are not quality-assured, but all users can be ranked, which can help students decide whether to trust a piece of information or not.
